Volunteer
“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they have the heart” – Elizabeth Andrews
We have been honoured to have with us a committed group of volunteers who have visited the donkeys and decided that they needed to play a larger part in ensuring that the Refuge is able to care for these beautiful creatures.
Some volunteers are “hands-on” and come out on a regular basis throughout our open season to groom, walk and spend time in with the donkeys giving hugs and scritches. Others join us a few times per season to help with our fundraising events. Others come out on an annual basis to do minor maintenance and odd jobs around the grounds.
Each volunteer plays an important role and we appreciate their giving of their time and talents.
If you would like to join us as a volunteer, please complete and submit the application form and the waiver form. This will help us determine the Refuge activities that are best suited to your time and talents.

Important information – please read…
Being “hands-on” with the donkeys requires a special skill set and good physical health. The donkeys are strong and can be challenging. Many have a history of abuse at the hands of humans – an accidental mishandling of a donkey can set back his or her progress toward trust and feeling safe.
All groomers and donkey walkers must take and pass the Training Session that we offer here at the Refuge for a fee. Working with the donkeys carries a huge responsibility so we want you to be well trained and able to carry out your duties safely.
Experience with equines in general and donkeys in particular is an asset. Your physical wellness & training will keep you and your donkey safe.
